How Much Does Junk Removal Cost in Northern Virginia? (2026 Guide)

May 1, 2026 7 min read

Junk removal pricing in Northern Virginia varies wildly. The same job that costs $250 with one company can cost $600 with another. After working in this industry, we want to give you the honest breakdown so you can avoid getting overcharged.

The Three Pricing Models

Every junk removal company uses one of three pricing models. Knowing which is which helps you compare apples to apples.

Volume-Based (Most Common)

You pay by how much of the truck your junk fills. This is how the major franchises (1-800-Got-Junk, College Hunks, Junk King) price, and it's how we price too. The catch: different companies have different truck sizes, so "half a truck" with one company isn't the same as "half a truck" with another.

For example, a standard franchise truck is around 18 cubic yards. Our truck is 35.5 cubic yards — nearly double. So our "half truck" actually equals their full truck. Pay attention to truck size when comparing quotes.

Hourly Labor

A few companies bill by the hour, typically $99–$149/hr for two movers. This makes sense for labor-only work (loading your dumpster) but is usually more expensive for standard junk removal where the truck and disposal fees are real costs.

Flat Rate by Item

Some companies charge per item ($75 per couch, $35 per mattress, etc.). This works for single items but adds up fast for whole-home cleanouts.

Based on actual quotes from companies serving Prince William, Fairfax, and Loudoun counties, here's what you can expect to pay:

What Drives the Price Up

Several factors can push a quote higher than expected:

Heavy materials. Concrete, brick, dirt, and tile fill a truck's weight capacity before they fill the volume. Most companies charge separately for these — typically $300–$800 per partial load.

Stairs and difficult access. Items hauled down three flights of stairs, or from properties without driveway access, add labor time. Expect $50–$100 surcharge.

Specialty items. Refrigerators (refrigerant), mattresses, pianos, and hot tubs all carry surcharges due to disposal fees or labor requirements.

Same-day rush service. Some companies charge extra for same-day jobs. We don't — same-day is our standard.

How to Save Money on Junk Removal

A few practical tips:

Donate or sell first. Anything in good condition can go to Salvation Army, Goodwill, Habitat ReStore, or Facebook Marketplace. The less you have us haul, the less you pay.

Consolidate jobs. If you have a garage cleanout coming up plus a couch you've been meaning to get rid of, do them together. One service call is cheaper than two.

Photo quotes save time. Online photo quotes (like ours) are free and give you an instant estimate without scheduling an in-home visit. You can compare 3-4 quotes in 30 minutes.

Ask about disposal fees. Some companies surprise you with "disposal surcharges" at checkout. Get a final, all-in price before scheduling.

Why Our Pricing Is Different

We use volume-based pricing with our 35.5 cubic yard truck. Because we can haul nearly twice what a standard truck can, our per-cubic-yard cost is lower than franchise competitors. Half our truck — the most common job — runs $499, which equals what most franchises charge for their full truck.

We also publish all our prices online, including surcharges. No hidden fees, no quote games.
